RGDATA urges Senators to push Government to accept amendment to Defamation Bill

Minister Robert RGDATA, ISME and the Alliance for Insurance Reform have pushed hard to get Senators to amend the Defamation Bill which is due to be debated in the Seanad on Wednesday(01/10). RGDATA nominee to the Industrial Panel, Mary Fitzpatrick has tabled an amendment that would stop polite enquiries about proof of purchase being a cause for costly defamation actions.

“Everyday moments — like asking for proof of purchase (a receipt) — are spawning costly defamation claims that small shops can’t afford,” says Flora Crowe, grocery store owner and AIR director. “The Bill needs targeted amendments so that genuine reputations are protected and community businesses aren’t forced into unfair settlements.”
