Shops will close if Government does not take action to assist essential food retailers with escalating costs: RGDATA tells Taoiseach

RGDATA has urged Taoiseach Michael Martin to take whole of Government action to address escalating costs as food retailers face an extremely challenging Autumn. Family owned shops are under extreme challenges dealing with energy price increases, food, commodity and supply cost increases.

They are also dreading new cost burdens from Government policy and regulatory changes including sick pay, pensions, living wage and the introduction of new sustainability measures and regulations including the Latte Levy and Deposit & Return Scheme.
