Six key recommendations to reduce legal costs for shops: RGDATA’s latest submission to Cost of Business Forum

RGDATA recommendations include: taking the judiciary out of decisions to set Personal Injury Guideline levels; a mechanism to compel complainants to meet the cost of unsuccessful legal claims and removal of unnecessary or inappropriate causes of action leading to legal cases and legal costs.

RGDATA also calls for an updated assessment by the Competition & Consumer Protection Commission on competition and price transparency within the legal sector and increased regulatory obligations on solicitors to appraise potential claimants of the risk of liability for legal costs.

RGDATA also states that a “Non-adversarial means of addressing genuine compensation claims must be the norm and should be focused on delivering reasonable levels of compensation in the most cost-effective manner possible.”
